Welcome

I offer psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapy for adults of all ages in Melbourne, with consulting rooms in Parkville and Fitzroy.

Many people seek therapy when speaking about their experience is difficult or just heavy. Speech carries the markings of where we have been. Psychoanalytic therapy is a place where speech is not a transaction, but may contain meanings that are outside conscious intention. Attention is given to the different movements and points of frustration that emerge through speech, and how your life has been shaped by past experiences.

What does it involve?

In hard times, we sometimes let go of parts of ourselves—hopes, desires, passions—and these things shift into unconscious mental processes. We might then feel stuck, or passive in our pursuits.

This therapy does not prescribe solutions, strategies, or advice. Instead, it attends to the patterns, the half-said, and unintended meanings that may hold clues to inner tension and suffering.

It is a confidential space where unspoken thoughts and concerns can be spoken and explored over time—recurring problems, feelings that seem disconnected from the moment, or a conflict that conceals another. This process can create new perspectives that provide relief, and a more spontaneous sense of self.

How does it work?

When thoughts or intentions remain outside awareness, the things we experience might seem empty or unchangeable. Through listening and encouragement, I aim to help you to bring these less obvious pieces of your inner world into your awareness. It is a dynamic process, like turning an obstacle into a new and different path. This can help with clarifying the inner connection to difficult or bothersome experiences.

What is it for?

I work with people experiencing a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, family conflict, life changes, and grief.

How frequent are sessions?

Sessions are generally one per week, or sometimes two. Sessions usually last for around 50 minutes.

The duration of the process depends on individual requirements and circumstances. Some people find relief from brief analytic work, while in some cases long-term work is more suitable.

How much does it cost?

The fee for one weekly session is $90, and the fee for an initial consultation is the same. Missed sessions are charged unless cancelled with a 24 hours’ notice.

About Me

I hold an honours degree in psychology, and a Masters degree with a focus on psychoanalysis from Monash University. I am currently pursuing advanced psychoanalytic studies at the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis. My work is non-medical, and I do not provide services under Medicare.

My research has focussed on the communication of change in psychoanalytic treatment, and the use of metaphor in art therapy.
